State Fair 2010

Today, the 3 of us headed out to the Texas State Fair bright and early. We figured if we got there early, it wouldn't be too crowded - and we happened to be right.

It was a little cooler when we got there (low 70s), but it warmed up to 80 by the time we left.

Tommy had a great time this year. The first thing we went to was called Little Hands on the Farm, where kids walk around in an apron and carry a basket with things they are to deposit into the different stations they have on the "farm." Tom and I really enjoyed watching Tommy walk around this section. He even got to ride a tractor around for a couple minutes. At the end they give you a "farm buck" for your hard work and you get to trade it in for a snack (he chose Sun Chips, but I got him Cheetos).

He didn't want to give the bucket back at the end.

After we left there, we walked around looking for something to eat. I wanted to try the Fried Chocolate (one of the new things this year), but the line was way to long, so I settled for Red Beans and Rice. After eating our lunch, we headed over to the rides where Tommy rode a little train with daddy. He didn't know what to think at first since he's only ever been on a carousel, but towards the end he was starting to point and smile.

Not sure what he thinks yet

The last thing we did was share a funnel cake and head over to the petting zoo. This was definitely Tommy's favorite thing at the fair. He was so excited to look at all the animals! His favorite were the goats and sheep and he actually touched both of them. I think the pig scared him a little bit (it was huge!) and he kept pointing at the zebras.

Tommy didn't want to take a picture - can you tell!

Look at that face!

We had a great day at the state fair and can't wait to go back next year with both of our kids. :)

15 Months Old

Today we took Tommy in for his 15 month appointment. He did great - up until he had to get his 3 shots. I always hate that part of the appointment. He only cried for a minute or two, but it's hard on me (and I'm assuming Tom).

Here are his stats from the appointment:
  • Weight - 26 lbs, 3.5 oz. (72%)
  • Height - 31 in. (45%)
  • Head 19 1/4 in. (90%)
So to sum it up - it looks like he will have my height and Tom's head - ha ha!

Here is a list of things Tommy is doing now:
  • Walking all over the place (he probably started around 14 months old)
  • Making a duck sound and flapping his arms (I need to get a video)
  • Loves showing me the signs for everything he's learned at school (His favorites - pumpkin, hat, please & thank you)
  • Helping us take the dogs outside every morning
  • Waving bye-bye to everyone and saying "Bye" every once in a while
  • Eating bar-b-que sauce with his nuggets from McDonald's
  • Webcamming with Grammy & Pappy in PA
  • Listening to Grandma and Grandpa from TX on speaker phone
  • Walking around the house with his golf clubs
  • Listening to mommy and daddy read the picture books to him and pointing to the words
  • Combing mommy's hair and wearing head bands around his neck
  • Pulling out photo albums and looking at pictures of his mommy and daddy

Grapefest 2010

This past weekend The Pike's and Michael (Michelle's brother) came down for a visit and to go to Grapefest - our annual tradition.

Friday, they all picked me up from work and we headed to Grapevine for Grapefest. We always do the wine tasting (I only did a few tastings). Since we had the kids, the girls take the first shift and the guys get the second shift. After the tasting, we walked over to the kiddie rides and let them ride the carousel and Madison went on a couple other rides. The guys went to this bar called Tap In for a few minutes (more like 45), while we stayed outside with the kids. On the way out, we had a funnel cake and listened to Petty Theft.

Saturday, we grilled some hamburgers and hot dogs and then took the kids swimming before they left that night to drive back home.

We had a great weekend and can't wait to see them again!

Tommy's 1st Haircut

This morning we took Tommy to Groovy Cuts for Kids for his 1st haircut.

Tom has been on my case for MONTHS to get Tommy's hair cut and I resisted until now. Tommy's hair was getting so long - curling over his ears and looking a little frizzy in the back.

He didn't enjoy it as much as we had hoped - since he was extremely tired, but I must say I love the end results. He looks like a little boy now.

We did get some locks of hair and he even got a certificate to mark the day of his 1st haircut!

Getting Ready for Game Day

On Friday, Tommy wanted to support his team (Pittsburgh Steelers), so he wore his jersey to daycare. He looked so cute in it!

In these pictures he is sitting in his little outdoor chair watching the puppies frolick around. It's the highlight of his mornings.

Labor Day Weekend

On Saturday, Tommy packed his bag (that I just happened to see earlier that day while shopping with him and my dad) and headed out with my dad to spend the rest of the weekend with my parents. We thought this would be a good weekend to get some stuff done around the house.

Tom and I did go to the Stadium Saturday afternoon for the TCU vs. Oregon State game. We aren't really fans of either team, but we were invited to a Field Level Suite (along with some other co-workers of mine) by my boss. The view from those suites are awesome, and since they are on the field, you also get seats right above the suite for a better view. We had a great time at the game!

Tom really liked the view!

Sunday and Monday we devoted our time to taking care of our to-do list that is hard for us to do when we have a toddler toddling around the house.

I'll tell you one thing though, we couldn't wait to go pick up our little stinker Monday afternoon.
